GARDE 10 CORE MATHEMATICS

1. A boy’s height is given as 145cm to the nearest centimeter. Find the upper and lower bounds within which his height could lie, giving your answer as an inequality.

2. The length of a field is measured as 90 metres to the nearest ten metres. Give the upper and lower bounds of the length.

3. The circle below has a radius of 8cm, measured to the nearest centimeter. Find the upper and lower bounds of its circumference.

4. The scale of a map is 1: 40000. Two villages are 8 cm on the map. How far apart are they in real life.

5. A model car is 1/40 scale model. Express this as a ratio. If the length of the real car is 5.5 metres, What is the length of the model car.(Give your answer in centimeters)

6. If 8 people can pick apples from some trees in 6 hours, how long would it take 12 people.

7. A sum of money is split between two people in the ratio of 2 : 3. If the smaller amount is $ 100. What is the value of the larger amount and the total sum of money altogether.

8. An aircraft is cruising at 720km/h and covers 1000km. How far would it travel in the same period of time if the speed increased to 800km/h.

9. The sides of a triangle are x cm, (x-5) cm and (x + 3) cm. If the perimeter is 25cm, find the lengths of the three sides.

10. I think of a number. If I subtract 9 from it and multiply the answer by 4, the result is 32. What is the number I thought of?

11. Sphere X has a diameter of 12cm, a surface area of 450cm2 and a volume of 900cm3. Sphere Y has a diameter of 6cm. What is its surface area and volume?

12. Find the total degrees, the interior angle and the exterior angle of a regular 8-sided polygon.

13. From one throw of a dice find the probability of getting:
an even number
a multiple of 3
a number 7

14. From a bag of 6 coloured counters, the probability of not selecting a white counter is 0.35.
